Good to know. I'm not sure why but there are a lot of RPG's, both console and PC, that start out really slowly. I thought Grandia was also pretty dull at first.

If you do give SO3 a shot, be aware that it suffers from the same flaw of SO2 (or at least it sounds like it does since I haven't played SO2)- a crap opening. The first five hours put me to sleep (literally- I actually dozed off at one point). But then it really clicked for me for me and I ended up spending another 75 hours with it and finishing it.

Haha, Final Fantasy XII is really, really long! I've been playing the game on and off for about two or three years, and I'm about 120 hours into the game. According to my pals who already beat it, if I want to continue to do all the side quests, then I've got another 50-60 hours of Gametime left. Thankfully, there are no annoying mini-games in this game (well. there are a few, but they're quickly over with and a lot more fun than those from the Gold Saucer in Final Fantasy VII and the overly annoying ones of the Kingdom Hearts series). Hope to hear more thoughts on Final Fantasy XII in the future.

I could not get into this game either. Some of my friends thought this game was one of the best Final Fantasy games out there. I didn't really like the story that much and the game machanics, having to suck the spells out of monsters for example didn't really give me the feel like I was playing a final fantasy game. I would have to agree with you thumbs down on this final fantasy game.

I also just started to replay Final Fantasy VIII, just last week. I'm returning from the Dollet SeeD field exam now. How far did you get the last time you played?

Oh yeah, this is a significant part of why DQ8 is my favorite game of the previous generation. It just did so darn many things right, not the least of which was that it totally captured making a world so beautiful and lovingly crafted that I enjoyed just roaming around in it, exploring and stumbling across interesting places, infamous monsters, treasure, and whatnot.

The game's excellent story was a totally unexpected bonus that pushed it over the 9-point range and into a solid 10 for me. One of the few "perfect" games I've ever played.
